Pillage is prohibited, including pillage of property constituting part of the natural environment. The destruction of any part of the natural environment is prohibited, unless required by imperative military necessity. Rule 13 – Prohibition of the destruction of the natural environment not justified by imperative military necessity. For States party to Additional Protocols I and II, as well as for non-state actors that are party to non-international armed conflicts to which Additional Protocol II applies, directing acts of hostility against historic monuments, works of art or places of worship which constitute the cultural or spiritual heritage of peoples, including when these are part of the natural environment, or using them in support of the military effort, is prohibited. Any form of theft, pillage or misappropriation of, and any acts of vandalism directed against, such property is prohibited.ī.
